The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 423 TUBBS, Irvin Melvin SPECIAL DUTY AREA Irvin was born in Penticton, BC in 1944. He joined the Army`s 2nd Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) in 1963. He was a Paratrooper until 1967 when he transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he trained and worked as a cook for twenty-one years. He did one six-month tour in Cyprus and finished his regular force career with the Navy for one year. Irvin retired from the regular force in 1984 and became a Security Guard with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires until 1987. He then joined the Militia full time as the Food Service Officer for Pacific Militia Area until 1991. After his Militia service, he again joined the Commissionaires for another eight years. He moved to Assiniboia, SK where he now enjoys full time employment as a school bus driver and trainer. Hunting, fishing and camping are his passion. His medals include the CD with Clasp, United Nations Service Medal, Cyprus Medal, Canadian Corps of Commissionaires Long Service Medal, and the Commissionaire Distinguished Service Medal. Irvin is an active member with The Royal Canadian Legion Assiniboia Branch 17. VALENTINE, David PEACETIME David was born in Arcola, Saskatchewan in 1985. Corporal Valentine served in the Army during peacetime. VAN HORNE, Dale Dale was the son of Richard and Clara (Swenson) Van Horne. Dale joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served on Canada`s east coast. After the war, he moved to British Columbia and had a career in the trucking industry. He married Doreen Bailey in 1950 and they had three children.
