The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 421 TAYLOR, Thomas L. “Bill” WWII Thomas was born on October 10, 1919 in Moose Jaw, SK. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and received Aeronautics Training in Saskatoon, SK prior to leaving and working at Brandon, MB; St. Thomas, ON; Brantford, ON and finishing at Deseronto, ON. He worked with the British Common Wealth Training Plan as an Airframe Mechanic. Thomas worked on the planes that the pilots trained in before going overseas. He married Gertie Hazell in 1945 and they had two sons. They moved to the family farm at Hawarden, SK and farmed successfully until retiring to Saskatoon in 1980. Bill lived in the Veterans Village at the Sherbrooke Home until his passing on February 3, 2009. THOMPSON, Charles “Charlie” WWII Charlie was born in Strasburg, SK in 1907 to Charles and Agnes Thompson of Semans, SK. He joined the RCAMC on January 6, 1942 at Duncan, British Columbia. For medical reasons, he did not go overseas. Charlie was discharged on September 7, 1943. He and his wife, Helen, moved to Castor, AB to farm and work in construction. He was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion Gull Lake Branch 119 for forty-three years. Charlie passed away on January 26, 1998. THOMSON, Alexander “Sandy” WWI & WWII Alexander was born in Ayr, Scotland in 1897. He came to Canada in 1914 and went to Hamilton, Ontario. At the age of seventeen, he enlisted with the 13th Battalion of the Black Watch (1915-1919) serving in England and France, suffering gunshot wounds to his legs. In 1921, he went west to the Harvest Excursion train. He worked near Simpson, SK and married Doris Bateson (originally from England) in 1931. He bought a farm for $100.00 at the head of Last Mountain Lake, now a Wild Life Sanctuary. In 1940, Alexander enlisted in the Second World War serving in Canada, also the high seas on POW escort duties. After discharge in 1946, the family lived in Nokomis, SK until retiring to Stave Falls, BC in 1955. Alexander passed away in 1965.
