The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 419 TARBAT, George WWI George was born in Letham, Forfarshire, Scotland on February 11, 1886. He immigrated to Kisbey, SK in 1906 and farmed while continuing his education until enlisting in the 203rd Battalion, CEF in March 1916. After training at Camp Hughes, Manitoba and Bramshott, England, he was held in the 18th Reserve Battalion until proceeding to France with the 8th Battalion in May 1917. He was wounded at Hill 70 in August 1917 and again in November 1917. He was invalided back to the 18th Reserve Battalion and married Janet Hampton. After discharge in April 1919, they returned to Kisbey where he was active in church and co-operative affairs. He was killed in a railroad accident in January 1929. A Co-operative Memorial Foundation was established in his memory. TATLER, Harold John Mason WWII Harold was born on April 24, 1917 in Saskatoon, SK. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War on March 7, 1941. He took his basic training at #2 Manning Depot (Brandon). He finished his Service Flying training and obtained his Pilot’s Flying Badge (Wings) on December 5, 1941 at RCAF Yorkton. He remained in Canada between January 1942 and June 1944 as a Flying Instructor and Squadron Commander and reached the rank of Flight Lieutenant. He was sent overseas to the United Kingdom on August 3, 1944. Flying Hurricanes and Spitfires he served with RAF 541 Squadron (Photo Reconnaissance), 41 Squadron (Fighter Reconnaissance) and 51 Squadron (Night Fighter). He returned to Canada on August 12, 1945 and was discharged on September 21, 1945. Harold was awarded the Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the 1939-1945 War Medal. Harold passed away on January 15, 2009. TAYLOR, Malcolm Malcolm was born on November 1, 1917 to Simon and Matilda Taylor. He was born four years after the family moved permanently to Macoun, SK. He was the only child born in Canada, as the other five were born in Minnesota, USA. Malcolm married Elaine Penny of Macoun and they had five children. He had a lengthy career in the civil service and retired to live in Saskatoon, SK.
