The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 413 ST. PIERRE, Ed NATO Ed was born in 1937 in Crescent Lake, SK and spent his youth there and at Pebble Lake, SK. In 1950, at seventeen years of age, he joined the NATO Special Forces in Central Europe where he served for three years. He was a member of the Infantry where he worked as an Anti-Tank Gunner and with the Long Range Artillery Weaponry. After his military service, he worked for Veterans Affairs and thereafter the Militia for thirteen years. Ed and his wife Harriet live in Yorkton, SK where he has been an active member in the community donating his time to The Royal Canadian Legion, Aboriginal Peoples Advisory Board and Native Employment Development. Ed is the father of three sons and one daughter. STEELE, Donald Touse WWII Donald was the son of Robert E. and Ellen Steele who had a farm south of Macoun, SK. He was born on July 5, 1915 in Macoun and attended school there. Donald joined the Royal Canadian Air Force when war was declared and left for overseas in December 1941 as a Fighter Pilot. He completed two complete tours flying mosquito bombers and then was transferred to No. 410 in Belgium. On April 29, 1944, Donald married Sadie Tait of Beadnell, Northumberland. Their daughter Carole was born in September 1945. Flight Lieutenant Steele was killed in action in Ulpenich, Germany on March 9, 1945. He received many medals and decorations and was awarded the George Cross. Donald is buried at HenriChapelle Cemetery near Liege, Belgium. STEELE, Ray Ray was the son of Norman and Pansy (Penny) Steele who had a homestead south of Macoun, SK. Ray was the twin brother to Roy Steele and was one of five children. The Steele family left the farm and operated the telephone office in Macoun for a time. Ray and his brothers and sisters attended the Macoun School. Ray served overseas for two years and seven months before being wounded in action. He went home to a welcoming reception in March 1944.
