The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 411 SMITH, William Herbert RCMP William was born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia on March 29, 1935. He enlisted in the Army and served with the 133rd Battery, 14 Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery in Canada. He was also an LSM with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. William has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion North Battleford Branch 70 for forty-seven years. SNYDER, Carl WWII Carl was born on July 21, 1921, one of fifteen children born to Fred and Mary (Schindel) Snyder. He grew up on the family farm close to Macoun, SK. In the years before the war, Carl worked on different farms in and around Macoun as well as in Manitoba. In 1941, Carl was called to join the Army. He served with the Edmonton Fusiliers, Prince of Wales Rangers and in the South Saskatchewan Regiment with the rank of Lance Corporal and Private. He fought in Belgium, Holland and Germany. Carl was discharged in 1945 and he and his brother, William, took over the family farm. He married Marion Audrey Perkins of the Benson area on October 25, 1950 and they had four children. Carl and Marion moved off the farm and into Macoun in 1978 but Carl continued to farm with his sons. SOBUS, Lavern A. PEACETIME Lavern was born in Nokomis, SK on December 26, 1940. He enlisted in the Army and served with the PPCLI in Edmonton and Calgary, AB and Victoria, BC. After his discharge, he lived in Saskatoon where he met his wife Alvina. They farmed in the Nokomis, SK area until they retired. Lavern has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Nokomis Branch 290 for forty-five years.
