The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 383 PERKINS, Frank WWI Frank was born in 1884. He enlisted in the Army during the First World War. He went to Megan, SK after the war and took up land through the Soldier Settlement Act in 1921. He sold his farm to his nephew in 1948 and moved to Nokomis, SK. Frank passed away in 1970. PERRIER, Walter Leroy WWII Walter was born at Ellendale, North Dakota, USA in July 1926. He moved to Rockglen, SK at the age of two. On April 26, 1945, he joined the Canadian Army in Vancouver, BC. After basic training at Abbotsford, he joined the Canadian Light Infantry and was transferred to Camp Ipperwash, ON for advanced training. He signed up to go overseas but before he could be shipped overseas, VE Day arrived. Walter was in a group of soldiers sent to London, ON to work in a factory retreading tires for Jeeps. Walter was given leave to go home to help with harvest. In September 1946, he was discharged at Regina. The Army paid for his barbering course, and Walter spent more than forty-six years barbering at the Franklin Hotel in Assiniboia. He was married with two daughters, and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Assiniboia Branch for sixtytwo years. Walter passed away in August 2014. PERRIN, Carl WWII Carl was born on December 17, 1919 in Elrose, SK. His family moved to the Arborfield, SK area in 1936. He enlisted in the RCE on June 19, 1941 and served as a Machinist with the 9th Field Squadron in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany until his discharge on January 4, 1946. He bought land, married and raised a family of five children. Carl passed away on March 29, 2000.
