The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 375 PARKER, Robert Storey WWII Robert was born on August 3, 1913 in Morse, SK. He joined the Canadian Army in 1941 and went to Weyburn and Dundurn for a training period. He was stationed at Shilo and Woodstock, Ontario before going overseas in August 1943. In February 1944, while training in England, he lost an eye and spent several months in the hospital. On his return to Regina, he received an honourable discharge after serving in Canada and England. Robert’s wife, Hazel, and their infant daughter, Faye, joined him in Moose Jaw where another daughter, Sandra, was born later. Robert passed away on April 6, 1984. PATERSON, William “Bill” WWII Bill was married in June 1942 and he enlisted in the Army on February 17, 1943. He served with the 1st Canadian Scottish Regiment, Pioneer Platoon in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany until his discharge on February 7, 1946. After the war, he farmed until 1957 when he moved to Alberta and worked as a carpenter. In 1967 he moved to Athabasca where he and his partner had their own business building homes until he retired in 1977. Bill passed away on September 10, 1991. PATON, Charlie, Sr. WWI & WWII Charlie was born on September 12, 1887 in Scotland. During the First World War, he joined the Imperial Army and served from 1914-1918 and suffered from poisonous gas which affected him for the rest of his life. He was also buried in the trenches, but managed to be dug out. In 1925, he, his wife and two sons went to Canada. During the Second World War, he enlisted with the 16/22 Saskatchewan Horse Regiment. He was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire for his thirty-six years in the Army. He had a family of three boys and three girls. Charlie passed away in Vancouver on March 18, 1956 at the age of sixty-eight.
