The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 367 ORBAN, Joseph Louis “Joe” WWII Joe was born in Arbury, SK on August 1, 1925. He joined the Regina Rifles on December 19, 1944, took basic training at Maple Creek, SK and joined the Infantry before being sent to Sarcee Barracks for advanced training. The training was very vigorous, climbing hills, long marches, crawling on the ground with bullets flying overhead, rifle training, shooting Tommy guns and Bren guns, throwing grenades and all things to prepare for warfare. But then the war ended and after finishing his training, he was sent to Dundurn, SK for eight months and was put on light duty with the rank of Private. He was discharged in the spring of 1946. He returned to Arbury, SK, then Southey and then went to Regina where he took a Barbering Course and was a Barber for nineteen years. Then he moved to Assiniboia and owned a men’s store for fifteen years. He retired in 1989, is married with one son and two daughters and has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Assiniboia Branch for forty-six years. OREMBA, Alex WWI Alex was born on November 9, 1897 in Satior, Poland. He served in the Czech Liberation Army from 1916 until the end of the war. After the war in 1927, he immigrated to Canada with his wife and two small children and lived in Esterhazy, SK. Alex passed away on April 30, 1991. ORTON, George WWII George was born in 1923. He was a decorated Second World War Veteran with many awards and commendations. He also continued to serve his community through countless years of volunteer work throughout his life. He was honoured with a Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation Award and a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his years of volunteer service and his contributions to his community. He was a long-time member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 1 and a founding member of the 600 (Regina) Wing Royal Canadian Air Force Association. George passed away in 2016.
