The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 351 NEKORAK, John WWII John was born on January 18, 1920 in Sheho, SK. He enlisted in the Canadian Army Active on October 8, 1945 and served with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Canada, Continental Europe and the Mediterranean until his discharge on December 13, 1945 with the rank of Sapper. He received the following medals: Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star and Italy Star. He married Malinda in 1961 and they raised two children. John passed away in October 1987. NELSON, Clifford WWII Clifford was born in Macoun, SK in 1908. He was the son of Andrew S. and Raghild (Agre) Nelson. The Nelsons lived on a homestead three and one-half miles northeast of Macoun. Clifford attended Macoun School and worked as a farmhand and a trucker, later operating a service station in Macoun. In 1941, Clifford married Dorothy Ash and later enlisted and served three years overseas as a Gunner in the CARU Corps. When the war was over, Clifford went home to farm and lived in Macoun until he and Dorothy built a new home on the farm and had two children. Clifford passed away in 1976. NELSON, Henry WWII Henry was born on April 21, 1922 in Coronach, SK. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. He attended an upgrading course for Air Crew in Regina, then Brandon and Saskatoon and later to Yorkton where he graduated as a Sergeant Pilot and received his wings. While in England, he took further training as a Bomber Pilot and was promoted to Flight Lieutenant and was then posted with #10 Squadron in May 1944. He completed thirty-five sorties comprising of 166 operational hours attacking heavily defended German targets. Henry was a pilot of great courage, fine operational skills and devotion to duty and was presented with the Distinguished Flying Cross on June 18, 1949. Henry passed away in 1984.
