The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 327 MEADOWS, Edwin WWI Edwin was born on January 7, 1895 at Milton Keynes in the county of Buckinghamshire, England. He came to Canada at the age of seventeen, worked on a farm in Manitoba and later went to Regina, SK. He joined the Army in November 1915 and served with the 46th Division, 10th CMR’s in England, Belgium and France until his discharge in June 1919. He married Gertrude Gooding on March 3, 1921 in Winnipeg, MB. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Whitewood Branch 87. Edwin passed away on May 22, 1950. MELNECHENKO, William John WWII William enlisted in the Canadian Army Active on October 2, 1942. He was wounded on July 25, 1944 and was taken as a Prisoner of War on October 11, 1944. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe until his discharge on October 23, 1945. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Defence Medal, the 1939-1945 Star, and the France and Germany Star. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Vancouver, BC and then in Regina, SK. William passed away on October 17, 1976. MELNYCHUK, Steve WWII Steve was born in 1917 in Theodore, SK. He was called for Army service in the spring of 1940. He served in Canada and Europe until he was wounded and sent back to Canada. He was discharged in the spring of 1945 with the rank of L/Corp. He married Elizabeth Babiduke in 1949 and they had one daughter and two sons. He farmed west of Sheho, SK for some time before moving to British Columbia in 1955. Steve passed away on February 28, 1967.
