The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 303 MAKSEMUIK, William WWII William was born on May 29, 1916 in Sheho, SK to parents Annie and Matt Maksemuik of Nipawin, SK. He attended school in Sheho and for some time worked at various jobs there before joining the Army with the Lanark & Renfrew Scottish Regiment, RCIC during the Second World War. He served in Canada, Europe, Sicily, and Italy. Gunner Maksemuik passed away on April 24, 1945 in Sicily. He is buried in the Naples War Cemetery in Italy. MALLOUGH, David Earle Sinclair WWII David was born in Grimsby, Ontario on August 31, 1921 and moved with his family to Saskatoon, SK at a very young age. He completed his schooling and was attending the University of Saskatchewan when hostilities broke out and he became a Private in the COTC with the 12th District Signals. On April 20, 1942, he enlisted in the RCNVR at HMCS Unicorn, completed his basic training on September 9, 1942 and qualified as a Telegraphist/Wireless Operator and served twenty-nine months at sea, and shore service of ten months in the Atlantic Theatre on numerous ships and bases. He was honourably discharged on September 4, 1945 at HMCS Unicorn and was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-1945. He married Isabella (Ashfield) Mallough of Grenfell, SK and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Nutana Branch 362 for thirty years. David passed away in 1980. MALLOUGH (ASHFIELD), Isabella Irene WWII Isabella was born in Grenfell, SK on April 24, 1926 and completed her schooling at Grenfell High School at the age of sixteen. She took the Teacher’s Course and completed one year of teaching (1943-1944) before deciding that she wanted to assist in the war efforts, so on January 5, 1945, she enlisted in the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Service at Regina, SK and served in Atlantic Canada during the Second World War. She completed her basic training on February 4, 1945 and was assigned WREN Special Duty Journalist and completed nine months Special Duty Journalism with the Public Relations Office in Atlantic Canada. She met and married David Mallough on August 8, 1945. She was honourably discharged on November 22, 1945 at HMCS Unicorn and was awarded the War Medal 1939-1945. Isabella was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Nutana Branch 362 for fifty-eight years before she passed away in 2008.
