The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 257 KIRKPATRICK, Gordon Daniel WWII Flight Lieutenant Gordon Daniel Kirkpatrick, the third son of Roy and Stella Kirkpatrick, was born on the Riebel farm north of Truax, SK in 1922. Gordon enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1944 and served during the Second World War. After training in Canada and England, he served as a Transport Pilot with 435 (Chinte) Squadron in Burma. From 1945 to 1946, he flew with 436 (Elephant) Squadron in Europe. He was awarded the standard medals for volunteer service and participation. Upon returning home to Saskatchewan, Gordon worked as an electrician with his father and, in 1947, began farming in the Truax area. In 1950, he married Mary Beingessner, also from Truax, who had worked as a nurse in Moose Jaw, Leader, Mossbank and Calgary, AB. They raised six children on the farm: Toni, Faith, Judy, Fred, Elaine and Jeannette. Gordon has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Truax. KIRKPATRICK, Raymond Charles “Raym” WWII Raymond Charles Kirkpatrick was born near Truax, SK on November 29, 1919, the second child of Roy and Stella Kirkpatrick. He attended Sanderson School, east of Avonlea, and enlisted in the Army in 1941, where he took an electric trade course in Regina, SK and Hamilton, BC before going to England. He served with the 28th Armoured Regiment of British Columbia in England during the Second World War. Raymond was injured in a gasoline torch explosion while training in England just before D-Day, June 6, 1944, and sent back to Canada six months later to continue recuperating. After he was discharged in 1944, Raymond and his wife Eileen (McCabe) farmed at Carrot River and Lafleche, SK then worked at the Lafleche Co-Op Store. Raym and Eileen had eight sons and two daughters: Len, Janet, John, Ralph, Marian, Murray, Floyd, Vince, Terry and Brian. KLEMPP, Theodore WWI Theodore was born in Neustadt, Ontario in 1888, son of George Klempp Sr. He joined the Army and served with the 46th Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment in Canada, England and France during the First World War. Private Klempp was killed in action on November 1, 1918 at Valenciennes, France and is buried at Aulnoy Communal Cemetery, south of Valenciennes, France.
