The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 255 KING, Russell E. WWII & KOREAN WAR Russell was born in 1923 in Regina, SK. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in December 1941 and served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe until his discharge in November 1945. He rejoined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in May 1948 and served in Canada and Korea. He received the War Service Badge “General Service Class”, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the France and Germany Star, the Korean Volunteer 1950-1954, and the Defence Medal. Russell passed away in 2001. KINZEL, Arnold Omar WWII Arnold was born on July 23, 1920 in Rhein, SK. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers (Army) from 1941-46. He served with the 26th Field Coy RCE attaining the rank of Lance Sergeant until his discharge in 1946. Arnold passed away on April 22, 2005. KIRKPATRICK, Franklin George “Frank” WWII Corporal Franklin George Kirkpatrick was born near Truax, SK in 1918 and educated at Sanderson School, east of Avonlea, and at Notre Dame College in Wilcox, SK. He was an avid ball player and, along with his brother Raymond and his father Roy, formed Kirk’s Bughouse Trio, a local entertainment group. Frank enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served during the Second World War with the King’s Own Rifles of Canada as a Light Terrain Vehicle Instructor at the Military Base on Vancouver Island, BC. Among those vehicles was a flame-throwing tank. In 1944, Frank was injured or became ill while on duty and died in Shaughnessy Military Hospital in Vancouver, BC. Frank is buried at the Truax Cemetery.
