The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 249 KEELER, John H. WWII John was born in Hazenmore, SK in 1920. In April 1942, he joined the Canadian Army in the 84th Field Battery RCA. He served in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and the Mediterranean until his discharge in September 1945. He started farming in the Armentieres District northwest of Whitewood, SK. He married Doris Meadows on October 14, 1948 and they continued to farm until 1975. John passed away on November 11, 2001. KEELER, Robert James WWII Robert was born on March 21, 1917 in Hazenmore, SK. He joined the Army in 1942 with the 84th Field Battery and served in Canada, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and the Mediterranean. After the war, he worked at Tantallon and Regina, SK and Calgary, AB until his retirement in 1979 when he bought a home in Whitewood, SK. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Whitewood Branch 87. Robert passed away on June 26, 1991. KEENAN, George Stevens WWI & WWII George was born in Galacia, Austrian Empire in 1901. During the First World War, at the age of fifteen and using the assumed name Stevens Green, George joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Prince Albert, SK in 1916. He served with the 243rd Battalion under OCJE Bradshaw in Canada and in England. He went overseas in 1917 and returned in 1919. During the Second World War, using the name George Stevens Keenan, he joined #6 Armoured Fighting Vehicles in 1943 and served in Canada. He was very seriously injured during a training accident in Dundurn. Following a long recovery, he returned to his family and his work at Imperial Oil in Regina, SK. The family discovered a photograph of the entire 243rd on a Legion Branch wall in Prince Albert that was taken before shipping out overseas, but because of his tender age at this time, it has not yet been possible to identify him. George passed away in 1986.
