The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 233 HUGHES, Robert WWI Private Robert Hughes was born on the island of Anglesey, North West Wales on December 5, 1890. He immigrated to Canada in March 1913 and was working at the Smithfield stock farm near Kisbey, SK when he joined the Army with the 65th Saskatchewan Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force in Saskatoon, SK on April 6, 1916. He served in France during the First World War. He was wounded in action in France and was at Kinmel Park Camp until May 1919 where he witnessed the riots in March 1919. He returned to Anglesey, married and farmed there for the remainder of his life. HUME, Clarence WWI Clarence enlisted in the Canadian Army during the First World War. He was killed in action in France in 1914. HUNDT, Anthony Joseph “Tony” WWII Anthony was born in 1914 in Sidewood, SK. He enlisted in the Army with the 16/22 Saskatchewan Horse Regiment at the start of the Second World War and served in Canada and Europe. He was captured as a Prisoner of War and spent ten months in a POW camp where he and many others were forced to take part in the arduous death march, where he saw many of his comrades succumb to the torturous conditions of the march. Medals in Tony’s collection are: the Defence Medal, the France and Germany Star, the 1939-1945 Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Tony married Dolly Rheinhart in 1946 and they raised three girls and a boy. Anthony passed away in 1994.
