The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 227 HOLMES, Harry WWI Harry was born in 1874 in Knaresborough, Yorkshire, England. He came to Canada in 1903 and settled in the Sheho, SK area. He enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, 68th Battalion OS on July 7, 1915, served in the 3rd CERB in France and was discharged on April 4, 1919. On July 26, 1936 Harry, his wife Lily and daughter Renee attended the unveiling of the Canadian National War Memorial in Vimy Ridge, France. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Regina Branch before he passed away in 1962. HOLMES, John Frederick “Jack” WWII Jack was born in Sheho, SK. He enlisted in the Army in January 1940. He served as a Mechanic and Electrician in England, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany until his discharge with the rank of Corporal on January 18, 1946. He received the Star of Italy, the 1939-1945 Star, Stars of France and Germany and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He married Winnifred Ballisch in England in 1945 and they had two children. Jack passed away in March 1986. HORRICKS, Stanley Charles WWII Stanley was born on June 3, 1922 in Shellbrook, SK. He joined the Canadian Army Active in 1942, serving in Canada, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and the Mediterranean. He also served in England, the Azore Islands, Scotland, Ireland, the English Channel, North Africa, Bay of Biscay, the Rock of Gibraltar, Sicily, Italy, the Coast of Norway, Alaska, the Aleutians, Pacific, San Francisco, the Panama Canal, Balboa, Central America, the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic, and North and South Bermuda. In March 1946, he was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Stanley passed away on December 14, 1980.
