The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 219 HEIN, Jacob “Jake” WWII Jake was born on December 31, 1925 in Warmen, SK. He joined the Army on October 13, 1944 and served in Canada until April 15, 1946. After his discharge from the military, Jake started his own trucking business. Later he worked for the DND Cold Lake Air Base as an airplane refueler in the summer and as a heavy equipment operator in the winter until 1983, the year that he passed away on October 1. HENDRICKS, Benny WWII Benny was born on November 3, 1922 in Kinistino, SK. He moved to the Aylsham, SK area with his family in 1925, enlisted with the RCE in 1942 and served overseas until his discharge in 1946. After the war, he married and farmed in the Carrot River area. They moved to Arborfield, SK in 1955 where he joined The Royal Canadian Legion Arborfield Branch 203 and was Secretary for many years. Benny passed away on November 23, 1987. HERBEL, Lawrence WWII & KOREAN WAR Lawrence was born on February 15, 1926 in Rush Lake, SK. He enlisted in the Navy on October 3, 1944 and served until February 15, 1946, going from Regina, SK to Cornwallis, NS, then to the west coast to take commando training, and then he served in Hong Kong and Kowloon. Lawrence passed away on August 22, 2004 and is sadly missed by his family and his wife.
