The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 211 HARRIS, Reginald William WWII & PEACETIME Reginald was born in Moose Jaw, SK in December 1922. In 1939, he enlisted in the Canadian Militia and served with the King’s Own Rifles of Canada, then was assigned to the Number 5 Provost Corps and the 5th Canadian Armoured Division in Italy where he served as a Driver for Major-General B.M. Hoffmeister. His tour of duty took him to Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was discharged on November 14, 1946 after serving in Canada, United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean and Continental Europe. At the end of the war, Sergeant Harris, now a husband and new father, was transferred to the Canadian Wives Bureau and stationed in The Hague, gathering up war brides across Europe and transporting them to the Netherlands to be with the servicemen they married. Reginald received several commendations including: the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Moose Jaw Branch 59. Reginald passed away in January 2008. HARRIS, Thomas Leonard WWII Thomas was born on October 16, 1911 in Maryfield, SK. He enlisted in the Army on November 28, 1939 and served with the 8th Army Regiment in Canada, the United Kingdom and the Mediterranean. He was injured in Italy on May 4, 1944 and was sent to England for treatment where he received his discharge on December 16, 1944, suffering from post-diphtheria neuritis. He was awarded the following medals: 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945. Thomas passed away on March 21, 1974. HART, Manfred L. “Fred” WWI Fred was born in 1899. He enlisted in the British Army in 1917 and served with the King’s Royal Rifles Regiment. Having fought in the trenches of France until 1918, he contracted trench fever and was sent to the Army Hospital. He was scheduled to go back to France but the war ended before he was sent. He came to Canada in 1921 and from the winter of 1923, he remained in the Sheho, SK area. Fred passed away on May 20, 1993.
