The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 199 GRUMETZA, Metro WWI Metro was born in Sheho, SK. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in Regina, received his basic training at Camp Hughes, MB and served in Canada until his discharge as Private. He married Lena Oshenak and they had two sons and one daughter. In his early life, he worked for the CPR and then started a Barbershop and Poolroom, managed a store and was a telephone operator. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Sheho Branch 356 for eight years. Metro passed away in 1958. GRUMETZA, Ross WWII Ross was born in Sheho, SK and attended school there. He enlisted in the Canadian Army with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in 1940. He served for five years in Canada, England, France, Belgium and Holland. He married Renda Neville in England and they had six children. In the spring of 1960, Comrade Ross Grumetza was hired to erect a cross at the cenotaph. He designed the base, cemented it, and then the cross was erected. Ross passed away in 1984. GUDMUNDSON, Arnold Halldor WWII Arnold was born in Bankend, SK on December 23, 1920. He enlisted in the #12 District Depot at Regina, SK on September 14, 1942. He completed motorcycle driver training in 1943, Driver Class III in March 1943 and served as a Driver Mechanic with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in France, Germany and Holland. Private Gudmundson was discharged on demobilization on March 25, 1946 and was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He then went home, took over his father’s farm, married Jean Lazorko in 1950 and they had seven children - five girls and two boys. They lost one son to carbon monoxide in their home. Arnold was involved in the community and served on the Saskatchewan Pool Board, the Credit Union, the School Board and was also a Counsellor for the Rural Municipality of Emerald Division 5-277 for many years. He farmed until his passing on June 18, 1995 of a heart attack at the age of 74. He received a medal from Holland thanking him for his service there during the war.
