The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 187 GIROUX, Arthur Claude WWII Arthur was born in 1916 in Dumus, SK. He joined the Reserve Army’s 101st Regiment in August 1940 and entered active duty on January 21, 1942. He served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe before his discharge on June 5, 1945. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal 1939-1945, the Defence Medal and the France and Germany Star. Arthur passed away in 1992. GLIDDEN, Borden “Bordie” WWII Bordie was born on January 10, 1912 in Lockwood, SK. He went to Arborfield, SK in 1933 and took up a homestead. He enlisted in the Army on May 20, 1943 and served as a Rifleman in Canada, England and Italy where he was wounded on August 5, 1944. He received his discharge on August 1, 1945 and joined The Royal Canadian Legion Arborfield Branch 203 on February 12, 1962. Bordie passed away on September 20, 1971. GOERTZEN, Charles Edwin WWII Charles was born on May 2, 1925 in Rosthern, SK. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, 6th Airborne Division in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He returned to Canada in 1946, and in 1954, he married Evelyn Swope and had two children, Debbie and Bob. He was active in the community, serving fifty-six years with The Royal Canadian Legion, twenty-five years with the Saskatchewan Wheat Board, twenty-one years on the Board of Directors for the Leoville Credit Union and eight years on the Leoville School Board. Charles passed away on February 17, 2003 after having heart surgery.
