The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 183 GAYTON, Ernest Edwin WWI Ernest was born in 1876 in Montreal, Quebec. He joined the Royal Canadian Artillery, 37th Battery as a Gunner. He served in France and Belgium during the First World War. Ernest passed away in 1961. GAYTON, William Arthur WWI William was born in 1886 in Manitou, MB. He enlisted in the Army with the Infantry, Saskatchewan Command, 28th Battalion as a Scout. He served in France and fought at Vimy where he was wounded in June 1918. He was reported missing to his parents and was taken by the French RC to France. He was later transferred to London, England where he received his commission while in hospital. William passed away in 1988. GELOWITZ, Matthias “Matt” WWII Matt was born on March 28, 1915 in Grayson, SK. He served in the Army with the South Saskatchewan Regiment as a Lance Corporal. During active duty in France, he was injured and then again in Germany. His decorations include medals, mentions and commendations, the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the Dutch Medal of Remembrance. Matt died too young on April 16, 1974 in Cold Lake, Alberta at the age of fifty-nine.
