The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 181 GALIPEAU, Arthur WWII Arthur was born on November 22, 1917 in Arborfield, SK. He enlisted in the Army on April 19, 1940 and served in Canada, England, Scotland, France, Belgium and Germany until his discharge on December 7, 1945. He married while in Scotland and went to Eldersley, SK in 1948. They spent the summer in Eldersley and the winters in Carrot River. They finally settled in Eldersley and raised a family there. Arthur passed away on September 20, 1999. GARDIPIE, Vincent Julius WWII Vincent was born on April 24, 1924 to George and Bella (Boyer) Gardipie who lived six miles south of Macoun, SK. Vincent was the second of six children and attended McGregor School. He joined the Canadian Army in 1943 and was sent overseas in the early spring of 1944. He married Jean Van Herzelle two weeks before embarking overseas. Vincent was killed in action on October 30, 1944 and is buried in the Bergen-op-zoom Canadian War Cemetery, Netherlands. Vincent and Jean had one daughter born in December 1944. GARLAND, Henry “Harry” WWI Harry was born on June 18, 1895 in Whitewood, SK. He enlisted in the Army with the 68th Battalion on December 1, 1915. He was sent to England and served with the Machine Gun Corps in France until he was wounded and sent back to England. He was discharged on April 19, 1919 and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. After the war, he married Laura Cousins on November 14, 1923 and they raised three daughters and one son. Harry passed away on January 12, 1975.
