The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 161 FAIRBAIRN (EVANS), Jean WWII Jean was born in Lyleton, Manitoba in 1920. She joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps on September 18, 1942 in Regina, SK. She completed her basic training at Vermillion Agricultural College on October 20, 1942, then completed a Driver Mechanic Course at Currie Barracks in Calgary, AB on December 22, 1942. Jean was stationed in Prince Albert, SK as Colonel’s Driver from January 1943 until June 1943. In July 1943, she attended Northern Vocational School in Toronto, ON where she took a Drafting and Blueprinting course after which she worked in the RCE Drafting Office in Regina until her discharge on December 10, 1945. Jean held the rank of Lance Corporal. She married John Evans in Regina on June 30, 1945. She was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lucky Lake Branch for forty-eight years before she passed away in 2016. FEDORCHUK, Walter WWII Walter was born on November 9, 1924 in Insinger, SK. He attended Yemen School and completed high school in Insinger and Sheho, SK. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in November 1942 and did his basic training in Saskatoon, SK. In May 1944, he received the rank of Sergeant and left Canada to serve overseas as a Flight Engineer, where he received the rank of Pilot Officer in England. Walter was killed in action on February 15, 1945 off the Coast of Sweden. FELLS, Robert George WWII Robert was born in Davidson, SK in 1919. He enlisted in the Army and served with the 8th Field Squadron RCE in Toronto, ON. His job was to build bridges and clean mines. He served in Canada, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during the Second World War and was in service for five years. Robert met his wife in the spring of 1943 and they were married on November 3, 1945. After the war, Robert was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Davidson Branch 51 for fifty-five years before he passed away in 2003.
