The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 151 DIXON, William John “Bill” WWII Bill was born on January 15, 1911 on the family homestead east of Macoun, SK. In 1940, Bill was among the first recruits enlisting for active service to the 1st Yorkton Light Anti-Aircraft Battery. The unit moved to Camp Shilo, MB and went overseas on August 27, 1940. In 1941, Bill met Grace Mitchell, a Royal Air Force Wireless Operator in Kent, England. In January 1943, the 1st Yorkton LAA Battery was credited with bringing down two of the Luftwaffe Airplanes over South England. Shortly after this, Bill sustained a neck fracture. He was placed in the Canadian Military Hospital in Basingstoke. Bill and Grace were married on August 18, 1943 at St. Giles Church in Edinburgh, Scotland. Two days later, Bill joined his unit shortly before the collapse of Germany. The unit remained in action in Holland until the end of the war. After the war, Bill and Grace farmed east of Macoun until 1978 at which time they rented out their land. Bill and Grace had five children. DRIVER, Albert WWI Albert was born in 1890 in England. He enlisted with the Army during the First World War, and was wounded in battle. He lived in Lockwood, SK before moving to the Megan area of Saskatchewan to homestead. Albert passed away in 1949 and is buried in the Jordan River Cemetery in Aborfield, SK. DUBOIS, Albert WWII Albert was born on April 9, 1911 near zenon Park, SK. He enlisted in the Army CACRU as an Orderly on June 9, 1944 and served in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland, and with the Occupational Forces in Germany until his discharge on May 28, 1946. After the war, he married, farmed, and later moved to The Pas, Manitoba. Albert passed away in 1981.
