The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 145 DAYTON, George Charles WWII George was born on March 14, 1925 in Camrose, AB. He joined the Army and served in England, Italy and Holland. He was wounded in action, was discharged and married Laura Bandle on June 11, 1947. They raised five children, two boys and three girls. George passed away in August 1992. De BACKER, Cyril WWII Leon and Sebronie De Backer were the parents of eight children born in Brussels, Belgium, one of whom was Cyril. In varying stages, the family had all arrived to be together in Macoun, SK by 1922. Cyril joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. While stationed in Caledonia, ON, he married Ruby Gardipie of Macoun on January 31, 1942. He was later posted to Mossbank, SK then to Calgary, AB. At war’s end, Cyril with his wife and family, one son and two daughters, returned to Estevan, SK where they lived until 1972. At that time, they moved to Red Deer, AB. Cyril died in 1977 and was laid to rest in the Veterans Section of the Estevan Cemetery. DeGRUCHY, Fransis WWII Fransis was born in 1915. He enlisted in the Army in Saskatoon, SK in 1943 and served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in Germany, where he was wounded in action in 1945. Fransis passed away in 1976.
