The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 129 CARR, John Brownell “Jack” WWII Jack was born in 1921 in Delisle, SK. He enlisted in the Army and trained in Maple Creek. He drove a truck during the war where he served in England, France and Holland. After the war, he drove ambulances from Germany back into Holland. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Delisle Branch 184 for forty years. Jack passed away in 1996. CARSWELL, James R. WWII James was born in 1918 in Turtleford, SK. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Pilot in 1940, graduating with Wings and Commission. He was posted to England and then Africa. During the African Campaign, he was mentioned in dispatches picked up by the Canadian Press. In August 1943, when based in Sicily, he failed to return after a tough combat with the enemy. James was twenty-four years old. In his honour, the Saskatchewan Government named a beautiful lake in Saskatchewan “Carswell Lake.” CATHCART, James Ernest WWII James was born in Orillia, Ontario on April 12, 1921. He enlisted in the Army and served with the 17th Field Regiment and 60th Battery of the Royal Canadian Artillery during the Second World War. He served from August 10, 1940 to June 13, 1946 in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and Central Mediterranean. His medals include the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. James has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Moose Jaw Branch 59 for fifty-nine years.
