The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 109 BOYER, Joseph Ernest “Ernie” WWII Ernie was born on February 9, 1909 in Rolette County, Thorne, North Dakota, and was a member of the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation. He was the oldest surviving child born to Damas (Tom) Boyer and Mary (Davis) Boyer who moved to the Macoun, SK area in 1910. On June 10, 1942, Ernie enlisted in the Canadian Armoured Corp in Regina, SK. He served with the Royal Canadian Dragoons as a driver instructor and mechanic until he received a medical discharge in July 1945. During that time, he served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe, receiving a Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Upon his return to the farm, Ernie married Cora Marion Blondeau with whom he had four children. A daughter was born to Ernie and Winnifred (Winteringham) Shaw in a second marriage. After the farm was sold in the 1950s, Ernie went to work for the M&S Coal Mining Co. as a coal sorter. He retired from the mine in 1961 and returned to Macoun and later to Midale. Ernest died in Midale on May 9, 1989. BRAATEN, Arnold WWII Arnold was born in 1924 in Pontiex, SK. He served with the Canadian Army in Canada during the Second World War. Arnold passed away in 1981. BRAATEN, Gilman WWII Gilman was born in 1918 in Pontiex, SK. He served with the Canadian Army in Canada during the Second World War. Gilman passed away in 2003.
