The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 107 BOYER, Francis Lawrence “Frankie” WWII Francis was the son of Louis and Mary (LaRocque) Boyer, the second youngest of twelve children who grew up on the Souris River ten miles directly south of Macoun, SK. He attended McGregor School and completed his grade 12 by correspondence when Gerry, his son, was attending the University of Saskatchewan. As a young man, Francis held various jobs in Estevan, participated in sports, loved to hunt, dance and socialize. Francis joined the Army later in the war and returned to the farm at war’s end. He married Ruby Lindgren in 1948 and they had two sons who were raised on the farm. Francis passed away in March 1976. BOYER, George Damas WWII George joined the family of Damas (Tom) and Mary (Davis) Boyer as one of their ten children, living for the most part, at the “Pump House” farm south of Macoun, SK. In 1939, George married Lillian Liese of Macoun. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Canadian Army in Regina, SK. George worked at the M&S Coal Mines until his accidental death there in 1961. George and Lillian had eight children - five girls and three boys. BOYER, George William WWII George was born on September 30, 1922 one of the youngest of thirteen children born to Louis and Mary (LaRocque) Boyer. The family farmed near the Souris River in Saskatchewan. On June 9, 1942, George enlisted with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in Regina, SK and began active service on July 9, 1942, serving in Canada, the High Seas, and United Kingdom. He was on escort duty transporting prisoners of war to Canada then reassigned to the aircraft carrier Nabob which was torpedoed on August 15, 1943, suffering 23 casualties and severe physical damage but still afloat. George went home on leave and then returned to Halifax where he was on guard duty the day after the armistice was signed. He received the 1939-1945 Star, the Atlantic Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. He was discharged on August 30, 1945 and married Norma Linton that fall. They had three children. In 1971, he married Kay Fraser. George worked for most of his life with Saskem as a salesman. George died on November 30, 1979.
