The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 101 BONAR, James Edward WWI James was born on September 11, 1886 in the High View District. In the fall of 1917 he enlisted in Wawota in the 81st Battery and trained in Regina. He went overseas to England in 1918, where he guarded prisoners at Ripon Yorkshire, having attained the rank of Corporal. He went with the 15th Canadian Reserve to parade before the King, Queen and Duke of Windsor in a March Past at Sheffield on the outskirts of London. He returned home to farm in 1919. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Wawota Branch 113. James passed away on December 11, 1982. BONDERUD, Alan Norman WWII Alan was born in 1918 in Leroy, SK. He joined active service in July 1942 and was a member of the Queenʼs Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada. He served in the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe. Upon his discharge he received the following Medals: 1939-1945 Star – Overseas War Effort; France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp for Active Service; War Medal – WWII. Alan was one of the founding members of The Royal Canadian Legion Leroy Branch 309 and was a member for over fifty years before his passing in May 2002. BONDERUD, Harold Lyle WWII Harold was born on August 25, 1925 in Leroy, SK. He enlisted with the Canadian Army Service on November 3, 1943 at the age of eighteen. He departed for England in December 1944. He served in Continental Europe with #33 Transport Coy, 2nd Corps, transferring to occupation forces with #2 Motor Ambulance Coy, 3rd Division. He later transferred to 16th Canadian General Hospital Transport Section. He returned to Canada in April 1946. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Leroy Branch 309, serving in different positions, finally as President. Harold passed away in January 2005.
