The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 97 COOK, Bill WWI Bill enlisted with the Merchant Navy in England during the First World War, and came to Canada in 1927 to take up a homestead in the Arborfield area. He was a member of the Arborfield Legion Branch 203 of the British Empire Service League organized in 1936. Bill passed away on April 15, 1970. COOK, Donald Joseph WWII Donald was born on April 28, 1925 in Rokeby, SK (Yorkton Hospital). He joined the war effort in the Second World War as a Flight Lieutenant and he served as a Captain WAG in the Air Force in England as a wireless air gunner. When he returned from the war, he took a job with unemployment insurance in Yorkton, where he met his future wife Betty. In their first meeting in that office, Donald literally turned around quickly and knocked Betty off her feet. They were married soon after in Yorkton and had three children. Before leaving Yorkton, Donald started a career with Canada Customs that took him to Saskatoon and Estevan before settling in Emerson, MB. He was a very community-minded person and spent countless hours volunteering. At the time of his move to Regina, he was doing the books for seven different charitable organisations. He worked with Revenue Canada Customs for 32 years and retired in Emerson. He was a member of the Yorkton, Saskatoon, Estevan, Regina and Emerson Legion Branches for a total of sixty-eight years before he passed away on September 16, 2014. COOMBE, Lawrence Edward WWII Lawrence was born in Prince Albert, SK in 1922 to parents Stella and Ernest Coombe. He joined the Army and served with the Tank Corps of the B.C.A.C. in Canada, England, France, Germany and Holland during the Second World War. He was a member of the Coquitlam Legion Branch for about fifty years before he passed away in 1987.
