The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 39 BARTON, Archibald Robert “Archie” WWII Archie was born on April 8, 1908 in Davidson, SK. He taught for several years in the Loverna area and later in the Pierceland District. In 1940, he joined the 16/22 Saskatchewan Horse Regiment and served overseas where he was transferred to the Postal Corps. He served during the Second World War until his discharge in 1945. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion soon after returning home. He continued teaching until 1974. Archie was a member of the Legion for 47 years, before he passed away in November of 1992. BASEY, John William WWII John was born on July 4, 1917 in Hubbard, SK. He enlisted with the Army on January 5, 1942. He served during the Second World War in Canada, the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean, and Continental Europe. He received the following Medals for his service: 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defense Medal, 1939-45 Voluntary Service Medal. He was a member of Abernethy Legion Branch. John passed away in 1987. BASKEY, Francis WWII Francis was born in 1922 in Govan, SK. He moved to Connell Creek in 1929. He enlisted in the Army on January 15, 1943. He served during the Second World War with the Argals and Southern Highlanders, Princess Louise, 1st Battalion in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany until his discharge on March 9, 1946. In 1950, Francis and his wife Beatrice received land from the Veterans’ Land Act and they farmed in the Huntdale area. Francis passed away in May of 2000.
