THORSEN, Edward L. WWII Edward was born in 1925 in Paddockwood, SK. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve Regular Force overseas as a cook from 1943 until 1945. After the Second World War, Edward worked as a cook in various mine and forestry camps in Northern Saskatchewan. He would be dropped off in the wilderness with a tent, a stove, and cooking supplies: then he would cook for the men working for a week to a month at a time. He bought land in the Northside/Paddockwood area near his birthplace. When he came out from his shifts, he spent time at his farmstead. Near the end of his working career, he worked in camps nearer to his home for Woodland Enterprises in more wellequipped kitchens. Edward never married. He died of cancer in 1991 at the age of 69. THORSEN, Harvey R. WWII Harvey was born in 1915 in Paddockwood, SK. He served during the Second World War with the Regina Rifles Regiment in the 14th Canadian Hussars. He served as a Corporal from 1940 to 1945 in Belgium, Holland and Germany. He received the 193945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Since Harvey was an older soldier, he was often a mentor for the young recruits in defensive and offensive missions. When Harvey joined the Armed Forces, he was a husband and father, so when he returned his young son was six years old and didn’t know who he was. Harvey was married to Vivian White, and after the war they had two more children. He farmed the Thorsen homestead and then worked at the Prince Albert National Park as a greenskeeper at the Waskesui Golf Course. Vivian and Harvey owned and operated the Red and White Store at Christopher Lake. They sold the store and retired to Spruce Point and then later in the Christopher Lake townsite. He worked to keep the St Christopher Anglican Church Cemetery neat, tidy, and organized. He was a member of the Christopher Lake Legion Branch 40 for forty years before he passed away on March 31, 2003.
