The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 397 THOMSON, Joseph Charles WWI & WWII Joseph was born on March 17, 1879 in Islington, Middlesex, England. He enlisted in April of 1916 and served in the 28th Battalion 2nd Gun Machine Gun Corp in Canada, Britain and France during the First World War until his discharge in September of 1919. He also served in the Home Guard during the Second World War. He was awarded the British War Medal and the WWI Victory Medal. He immigrated to Canada in 1903, settled in Manitoba then St Walburg, SK in 1912 where he farmed, trap lined, ice fishing, and worked at the Liquor Board Store. He was very proud of his team of huskies. He moved to British Columbia during the Second World War then moved to live with his son in Saskatoon in 1950 until his death in 1963. THOMSON, Joseph King WWII Joseph was born on December 27, 1901 in Barnsbury, London, England. He was raised in London and came to Canada in 1919 to St Walburg, SK where he trapped, fished, laid railway track and worked as a farm hand. He enlisted with the 1st Battalion Saskatoon Light Infantry in 1939 and while in England he met and married Grace P. Miller. He served in Canada, England and Continental Europe during the Second World War. He was demobbed in 1945. Grace and daughter Sheila arrived in 1946 and they resided in St Walburg until 1949 then moved to Saskatoon, SK. Joe worked at the Dominion Fruit Company and the Federal Department of Public Works until his retirement in 1967. He was a Commissionaire until his sudden death in 1970. Joe was an avid curler, gardener and lawn bowler, was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 and painter of water colors. His medals include the France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. THOMSON, Norman McLaren RCMP Norman was born on May 28, 1946. He served as Corporal with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police “F” Division Saskatchewan from May 13, 1968 to June 4, 2003. He was awarded the RCMP Long Service Medal, Queen’s Jubilee Commemorative Medal and the Saskatchewan Protective Service Medal.
