The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 305 PHENIX, Wilfred WWII Wilfred served as a Private with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps from 1941 to 1946 during the Second World War. PHILLIPS, Robert Ray WWII Robert was born on August 12, 1922 to Allie and Laura Phillips who farmed in the Tate area of Saskatchewan. Robert grew up on the family farm. The Second World War started when he was eighteen years old. His older brother Howard had already joined the Canadian Army and was serving overseas, so he decided that he would also join up. He went to Regina to volunteer his services and joined the Regina Rifles in 1942. He was posted in Ontario after basic training. In 1943, he was sent to Aldershot, England and was stationed there for the remainder of the Second World War, serving as a Lance Corporal. He told of being horribly seasick on the ship on the trip over to England and even hoped the Germans would bomb the ship because he was so ill. When the war ended, the soldiers were sent home on the ship Queen Mary and he had a much more pleasant trip coming home than going over to England. After the war, Robert returned to civilian life with his wife and family. He was a member of the Semans Legion Branch 108 before he passed away in 1989. POCOCK, Archie Harold WWI Archie was born in 1891. He served as a Private in France with the Canadian Light Horse from March 28, 1916 to March 8, 1919 during the First World War.
