He joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and served as a Private from September 29, 1940 to October 5, 1945 during the Second World War. He passed away in 1999. OLSON, Vernon Oliver WWII Vernon was born on October 24, 1925. He was stationed in England and served with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps from 1944 to 1945 during the Second World War. ONCESCU, John John “JJ” WWII John was born on February 8, 1919 in Limerick, SK. He joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment in November of 1940. He went to Montreal and worked in an Air Craft Plant making Harvard Trainer Planes for the war effort for four years. Then he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Ottawa. He was waiting for a Flight Engineers course. He was discharged in 1944 and returned to the family farm in Limerick. He was married and had three sons. He farmed for forty years and retired to Assiniboia, SK. JJ has been playing fiddle in a band with other seniors for over twenty-five years and they are still playing today. JJ has been a member of the Limerick and Assiniboia Legion Branches for many years.
