The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 87 DAILY, Larry William PEACETIME Larry was born on March 12, 1948 in Miami, Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served from April 1968 to1973. Larry was with the Construction and Engineering sections at CFB Borden and CFB Lahr in Germany as well as in Alert, Northwest Territories and Moose Jaw in 1975. While there, he helped with the Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976 and then did a 6-month tour at Ismailia, Egypt where he met with a fatal vehicle accident on November 10, 1977. His body was returned to Moose Jaw where he was laid to rest at Rosedale Cemetery at the age of 29. Sergeant Daily received the NATO Peacekeeping Medal, the UN Service Medal and the Daghammerskjold Medal for his duty in Ismailia. He was a member of Moose Jaw Legion Branch 59 for two years. DANIEL, Elmer Arthur WWII Elmer was born in 1920 in Avonlea, Saskatchewan. He was a farm boy when he joined the Army in Regina in 1941 and was asked if he could drive a Caterpillar tractor, which he could. He was assigned to serve with the British Columbia Dragoons in Canada, England and Italy where he was wounded in Salerno as a result of a faulty bomb exploding in a tank gun. He was a Sergeant in the field but this was not confirmed at Headquarters, so he was discharged as a Corporal. Elmer was a member of Avonlea Legion Branch 236 for fifty-five years before he passed away in 1999. DARNELL, Lee WWII Lee was born in 1919 in Avonlea, Saskatchewan. He joined the Canadian Army and served at McNutt’s Island in Nova Scotia during World War II. Lee passed away in 2004.
