The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 85 CURTS, Alvin Edmond WWII Alvin was born in 1924. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a Leading Aircraftman in Canada from 1941-45. He trained at Brandon, Manitoba then was transferred to Vancouver, British Columbia. His duty was to drive the ambulance and transport trucks. After his discharge, he farmed in the Paddockwood area and owned the Paddockwood Transport Co. for many years until his retirement in 1985. Alvin was a member of Paddockwood Legion Branch 31 for forty-nine years, serving as secretary-treasurer for over 15 years. Alvin earned the 1939-45 George IV Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He died in 1995. CURTS (nee YOUNG), Florence Elsie WWII Florence was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1923. She enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in Regina and served as a clerk typist in Kitchener, Ontario and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Corporal Curts was also on Sable Island off the coast of Nova Scotia where they watched for German U-Boats. Florence received the 1939-45 George VI Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Upon her retirement from the Army, she married Alvin Curts and is the mother of four children. She was a member of Paddockwood Legion Branch 31 Legion Auxiliary, receiving her 50-year medal then joined the Branch which she served for 15 years. Alvin passed away and Florence is now retired and living in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. DAHMER, Adam Conrad WWII Adam was born on August 24, 1914 in St. Brieux, Saskatchewan. After grade school, he chose carpentry as a trade. On January 29, 1943, he enlisted in the Canadian Army as a rifleman and served in Canada, United Kingdom and Continental Europe with the Irish Fusiliers of Canada as well as with the Regina Regiment, from January 1942 to January 1946. He received the Bronze Medal, the France and Germany Star and the George VI Medal. On September 11, 1944, Adam married Mabel Preete and they had 10 children. After the war, he farmed with his father until 1962 when their home burned after which they sold the farm and moved to St. Brieux. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1994. Adam passed away on April 7, 1995.
