The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 61 BROWN, Walter WWI Walter was born in England and came to Canada in 1906. He lived in Saskatchewan’s Gardenia District and had a daughter with his wife, Grace. Corporal Brown served with the 3rd Division from 191419 in Canada, France and England and was a riding instructor with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. Walter was a member of Quill Lake Legion Branch 37 and he died on April 6, 1926 at the age of 31. He is buried in St. Michael’s Cemetery, north of Quill Lake, SK. BUTLER, Edward WWI Edward was born in Tullow, Carlow, Ireland in 1892 and came to Clair, Saskatchewan. During WWI, he served as a Private with the Moose Jaw Regiment in Canada, Belgium and France. He was discharged to a convalescent home in Regina on March 15, 1917 due to his wounds. After the war, he married Sarah Townsend and they had two children. Edward died on September 1, 1950 and is buried in the Clair Cemetery. He was a member of Quill Lake Legion Branch 37. CAMPLIN, Fred WWI Fred was born in England in 1896 and came to Canada in 1912. He joined the Army and served in Canada and Europe with the 214th Battalion and later with the 5th Battalion, 1st Division. He was the first President of the Great War Veterans’ Association when it formed in Quill Lake in 1919. Fred was a farmer who moved to British Columbia.
