He enlisted in the 25th Field Company of the Royal Canadian Engineers and served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. Corporal Betz received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-45. George died in 1990. BETZ, Jacob Bernhardt “Jack” WWII Jack was born in the Pelly District of Saskatchewan in 1917 and served under the National Resources Mobilization Act from November 22, 1942 to June 6, 1944. He enlisted in the 25th Field Regiment in Wainwright, Alberta on June 7, 1944 and served in Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, France and other war zones. His brothers, George, Frank, and Lawrence also served at the same time. After his discharge, Jack returned to farm in the Pelly area and married Evelyn Bjerke on October 2, 1946. He was a member of Legion Branch 65 for forty-three years until he passed away in 1987. BETZ, Lawrence Raymond WWII Lawrence was born in the Pelly District of Saskatchewan on April 29, 1921 and served under the National Resources Mobilization Act from August 4, 1942 to May 19, 1944. He enlisted in the 11th A. A. Battery of the Royal Canadian Army at Prince Rupert, British Columbia on May 20, 1944 and served in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe. Lawrence served at the same time as his brothers, George, Jack and Francis, but they weren’t in the same unit. Private Betz was awarded the France and Germany Star and was discharged on March 2, 1946. He returned to the Pelly area where he farmed with his brother Frank on the Betz family farm. Lawrence died in 2005.
