The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 443 WOOD, Elmer Dewitt WWII Elmer was born in Cadillac, Saskatchewan in 1919. He joined the Army and served with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in England and at the Dieppe Raid. Elmer was a member of Yorkton Legion Branch 77 for a number of years before he died in 2003. WOOD, Lorne Everett WWII Lorne was born in Cadillac, SK on November 21, 1922. From January 24, 1942, he served as an airframe mechanic with 8 Repair Depot in Winnipeg and participated in the Britain Commonwealth Air Training Plan. He left the service in Regina on January 13, 1945 as Leading Aircraftman. He then became a blacksmith and welder at Delisle, SK and served in the Volunteer Fire Department. He moved to Saskatoon and became a funeral director. Lorne is a Life Member of Nutana Legion Branch 362 and served third vice-president, welfare officer, sergeant-at-arms and long-term Legionnaire in charge of the Legion Funeral Rites and two terms as branch president during his 40 years of membership. In 1974, Lorne was elected branch president while his wife Bernice was first elected president of the Ladies Auxiliary. He has also chaired poppy campaigns, assisted at Remembrance Day dinners and dances, assisted Ladies Auxiliary banquets and provincial track and field meets. Lorne has a number of Legion medals and a Certificate of Merit from the Ladies Auxiliary as “the world’s best helper.” He married and had a son and daughter. WOOD, Thomas Victor WWII Thomas was born in 1917 in Cadillac, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army and served with the Regina Rifles in England and on DDay. Thomas was a member of Prince Albert Legion Branch 2 before he passed away in 1999.
