The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 435 WILKINSON, Fred W. WWII Fred was born in Handel, Saskatchewan on August 14, 1914. He enlisted in the Army in Saskatoon on February 17, 1942 and served in the United Kingdom as a motor mechanic with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He left the service in Regina on January 10, 1946. After the war, he returned to the farm in Handel and farmed until 1971 when he moved to Saskatoon and worked with the Corps of Commissionaires for twelve years. Fred married and had four sons. WILLIAMS, Charles M. “Red” WWII Red was born on March 18, 1925 in Regina. He enlisted in 1942 and served on HMCS Sioux, a Canadian destroyer with the Royal Navy in the Home Fleet accompanying convoys into Murmansk in Russia. He left the service in 1945 as Telegrapher (special operator) and the Russian government presented him with a medal commemorating his service to Russia on the Murmansk run. Red took the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree, and the Master of Science in animal husbandry at UBC then the Doctor of Philosophy at Oregon University. In 1954, he became assistant professor of animal science with the University of Saskatchewan then became professor and head. He formally retired in 1992 but continues to lecture some classes at the University. For most of his adult life, he was active in the Liberal Party and has been president of the Saskatoon symphony, chairman of the board of CUSO and president of Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists. He is a member of the Order of Canada and a Fellow of the Agricultural Institute of Canada. Red married and had a son and two daughters. WILLIAMS, G. WWII G. Williams was born in Unity, Saskatchewan on October 12, 1925. He enlisted in the Navy on April 12, 1943 and served as Able Seaman in Canada, the United Kingdom and on the high seas in the North Atlantic. He left the service on January 10, 1946, married and has been a member of Nutana Legion Branch 362.
