The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 433 WIDDIFIELD, Leslie “Les” WWII Les was born in Watson, Saskatchewan on August 21, 1925. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in Saskatoon in 1944 and served as a telegrapher (T/O) on the high seas on HMCS Unicorn, HMCS Cobalt and HMCS Lauzon. He left the service in 1945 in Saskatoon and then worked for 43 years with Canadian National Railways. Les married and had two daughters. WIEBE, Harvey Melvin Floyd PEACEKEEPING Harvey was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1949. He joined the Canadian Forces on September 11, 1969 in Regina and served with LORE, CME and the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers as a vehicle tech and as a carpenter, starting in 1982. He served on many bases in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Nova Scotia. He also served two and a half years as a mechanic trade instructor, six months in Egypt (U.N.), six months in Israel’s Golan Heights (U.N.), six and a half months in Alert (high Arctic) and over two years with NATO in Germany. He spent two weeks in the NWT in February 1978 in support of the search for Cosmos 954. Now in Swift Current, Harvey is serving his second term as president of Swift Current Legion Branch 56 and has been a member of branches in Chilliwack, Halifax and Lahr, Germany. WIEDMAN, Emil WWII Emil was born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan on August 13, 1924. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Calgary in December 1943 and served as a cook with Squadron 416 in the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe. Emil left the service in Winnipeg in August 1946 as Leading Aircraftman but re-joined the RCAF in 1955, serving in supply work for ten years. After that, he worked as stationary engineer for the Saskatoon Post Office. Emil married and had a son and daughter.
