The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 401 VAN der VEEN, Louis WWII Louis was born in Oosterbierum in Holland on October 21, 1910. He enlisted in Saskatoon on October 5, 1940 and served in the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe with 20 Company of the 16th Field Regiment Engineers. He left the service in Regina on January 23 1946 as Sapper. After the war, Louis worked for a time as a farmer then in road construction and was then a greenskeeper. He is a Life Member of Nutana Legion Branch 362 and has served as vice-president from 1964-67 and in 1983, as Zone Commander from 1967-1972, and as chair of several committees, such as Decoration and Remembrance Day and Poppy and Wreaths. He is also a member of the Poppy Trust Committee. Louis married and had a son and two daughters. VANCE, Clare Henry WWII Clare was born on April 25, 1922 in Saskatoon. He joined the Navy in October 1941 and served on the high seas during WWII. He stayed in the Navy until he retired in 1972 as a Major. Clare was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration. He married and became a member of Nutana Legion Branch 362. VERNON, E. R. SPECIAL DUTY AREA E. R. Vernon was born on November 8, 1938 in Kirkland Lake, ON. From September 27, 1957, he served as a Craftsman with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in the Middle East, leaving the service in 1965. He married and has been a member of Nutana Legion Branch 362.
