The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 371 STEWART, William Duncan KOREA William was born in Miniota, Manitoba in 1931. He joined the Army at 19 years old and served in Korea from 1952-53 as a Trooper with the Strathcona Horse Royal Canadians (LDSH). William suffered from PTSD and he died in 2002. He was a member of the Saskatoon Legion Branch for fifty years. STIMPSON, G. E. “Ted” WWII Ted was born in Regina on March 24, 1923. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Saskatoon on July 22, 1942 and trained as a radio mechanic, serving with 160 RCAF Bomber Reconnaissance Squadron from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and Torbay, Newfoundland. All four Stimpson boys served during the war, two in the navy and two in the RCAF and all survived. Leading Aircraftman Stimpson left the service in Regina on July 13, 1945 and became a journeyman electrician then manager of an electrical contracting firm. He went on to establish his own electrical contracting firm in Saskatoon and became president. Ted was active in Calvin Goforth Presbyterian Church in Saskatoon and sings in the choir, golfs, curls, bowls and is member of Kiwanis. STOEN, Garnet L. WWII & PEACETIME Garnet was born at Beaver Valley near Cadillac, Saskatchewan on July 10, 1918. He served in the Army from May 1941 and in June 1942, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Regina. He served as a tradesman on Squadron 125 in the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe and left the service in Regina on February 9, 1946 as Flight Sergeant. Then he enlisted in the peacetime army and served from September 26, 1946 until February 1, 1968. Garnet received the Canadian Forces Decoration. After the war, he worked with Bristol Aerospace (1968-1979) and with Saskatchewan Native Housing (1979-1984). He retired in 1984 to Kingston, Nova Scotia where he died in September 1996. Married with one daughter, Garnet was most active with Nutana Legion Branch 362 while in Saskatoon, serving two terms as branch president (1975-75) and (1985-86), as first, second and third vice-presidents and as membership chairman. He was a Life Member of the branch. Garnet was also active at fundraising in his church and enjoyed curling and golf.
