The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 35 BAKER, Edgar Elton WWII Edgar was born in 1918 near Hazlet, Saskatchewan. In 1940, he joined the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and served in England, Germany and Italy. Due to his excellent marksmanship, he became a sniper behind enemy lines. While in the Italian campaign, he was twice wounded near the end of the war. When Edgar was a young boy, he had told his mother he would someday see Rome. He did this while serving in Italy. Upon his return to Canada, he opened a trucking business in Tompkins, Saskatchewan where he was active in The Royal Canadian Legion and the community for many years. He played baseball and coached minor softball as well as minor and senior hockey in the White Mud League. He had two sons with his wife Hazel. Edgar was a member of Tompkins Legion Branch 140 for twenty-eight years before he passed away in 1976. BANNATYNE, Garnet WWII Garnet was born in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan in 1919. He joined the Army and served with the Seaforth Highlanders, 62nd Battery of the Artillery in Canada, England, Italy, and in Holland with the 1st Division. He married, had two children, operated a hotel and bar, and was a member of Quill Lake Legion Branch 37 for sixty-three years. He moved to British Columbia where he died in 2009 and is buried there. BANNATYNE, James WWII James was born in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan in 1926. He joined the Army and served with the Calgary Tanks in Canada, Italy and Holland during World War II. He moved to British Columbia after his discharge. James married, had four children, and was a member of Quill Lake Legion Branch 37 for sixty-two years. He was buried in BC after he died in 2007.
