The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 357 SIWY, Szymon “Sam” WWII Sam was born in 1915 in Podzameczek, Poland. He joined the Polish Army at an early age and was a Lance Corporal in the Horse Artillery Division in Stanislawow. He obtained Radio Communications Service training and within fifteen days of discharge, was called to Wrzesnia, Poland then Warsaw. World War II had begun. Sam performed his military service in the Polish Armed Forces under Allied command in combat against Germany from September 1939. He was taken prisoner in Warsaw, went to Giebelstadt and was kept the next five years in the German camp where he became a translator. Sam escaped in 1945 and was honourably discharged in 1947. He made the long voyage to Canada, eventually settling in Weyburn where he was a member of Weyburn Legion Branch 47 for thirty years before he died in 2009. SLIND, C. M. WWII C. M. Slind was born on March 16, 1924 in Saskatchewan. He joined the Navy on July 12, 1944 and served as a telegrapher (SO) in Canada and in the United Kingdom until leaving the service on March 19, 1946. He married and became a member of Nutana Legion Branch 362. SLOCOMBE, T. E. WWII T. E. Slocombe was born in Bristol, England on December 4, 1918. He joined the RAF in December 1939 and served in the United Kingdom, Europe and Canada. Corporal Slocombe left the service on January 1, 1946, married and became a member of Nutana Legion Branch 362.
