The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 351 SHEPHERD, J. WWII J. Shepherd was born in Wynyard, SK on May 24, 1925. He joined the Navy on September 23, 1943 and served in Canada and the United Kingdom until leaving the service on January 4, 1946. He married and has been a member of Nutana Legion Branch 362. SHIELDS, Kenneth N. SPECIAL DUTY AREA & PEACETIME Kenneth was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in 1941. He joined the Canadian Army and served in Canada and Germany with the NATO Forces, 1st Battalion, Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada. He has received the Service Medal. Kenneth has been a member of Stoughton Legion Branch 133 for thirty-five years. SHIELS, Peter D. WWII Peter was born on the family farm in the Hazlet area on November 11, 1917. He joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment on July 9, 1940 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan and his regiment trooped the colours for the King and Queen in Winnipeg in September. After leaving Halifax for England in April 1941, Peter trained on the Isle of Wight and fought at Dieppe on August 18, 1942. He made it back to England but he was wounded after he returned to France in July 1944. Peter worked as a mechanic and continued his training duties until the end of the war after which he returned to Halifax in June 1945 and Regina on August 3, 1945 for his discharge. He went back to the family farm and married Irene Smith with whom he raised four children. Peter farmed until his death in May 1971.
