The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 341 SCHMIDT, Paul Gottlieb WWII Paul was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan on December 2, 1913. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1941 and served as Chief Petty Officer in the North Atlantic Active Service on the Corvette war ship HMCS Cobalt. He also served on the war ship Glace Bay. Paul received his discharge in December 1945 and earned several medals. He passed away on December 10, 2003. SCHMIDT, Theodore Herman “Ted” WWII Ted was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan on November 29, 1917. He enlisted in the Canadian Army, completed his training and was sent to England on October 9, 1941 to serve with the 11th Field Ambulance Company of the Royal Canadian Medical Corps. In September of 1942, Ted was captured at Dieppe during a commando raid and spent two years and nine months in the Stalag 8B German prison camp. During his confinement, he was kept in chains and his sparse food was a thin soup made from potato parings, wormy cabbage leaves and some black bread. Private Schmidt was liberated on May 1, 1945. SCHRIEMER, Bauke WWII & SPECIAL DUTY AREA Bauke was born on December 23, 1926 in Dokkum, Holland. He enlisted in Holland’s army in April 1945 and served as a commando in the Far East. He then joined the Dutch Air Force and served in Holland, the United Kingdom and with NATO. He left the service as a First Sergeant. Bauke came to Canada in 1960 and works as a warehouseman with a moving company.
