The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 333 SANDERSON, Vernon Edward “Vern” WWII Vern was born in Saskatoon on January 1, 1921. He worked at McGavin’s Bakery where he was trained as cook and baker before he joined the RCAF on July 12, 1941. Vern served as a cook and baker at a number of locations in the United Kingdom, Tunisia and Canada. Corporal Sanderson left the service in Winnipeg on December 2, 1946 and returned to McGavin’s for a time and then rejoined the Royal Canadian Air Force food services in 1949, serving in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and then back in Canada. He received the Canadian Forces Decoration and he retired from the service in January 1970 as Warrant Officer 2. Vern was married with two sons and two daughters and then his wife died in childbirth. After he left the Royal Canadian Air Force, he joined Federated Cooperatives in Saskatoon as director of cafeterias. Retired formally in 1991, Vern served on the board of the suburban Clavet Arena for a number of years and with the seniors’ hockey team. He remains active in all concessions operated by the arena and the Clavet Ball Park. SANE, Vernon PEACETIME Vernon was born in Lampman, Saskatchewan on March 25, 1945. He served in the South Saskatchewan Regiment, the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and the Air Cadets. He took one year in the College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan and works as a maintenance planner for the potash mine in Allan, Saskatchewan. Vernon is married and has a son. SAUDER, Kenneth Alfred WWII Kenneth was born in 1921 in Lockwood, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII and served in England and Southeast Asia with 413 Squadron. Kenneth has been a member of Carrot River Legion Branch 186 for fifty-four years.
