The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 305 PURCELL, Edgar J. WWII Edgar was born in Clair, Saskatchewan in 1924. He joined the Saskatoon Light Infantry at 15 years old and served in the Royal Canadian Medical Corps in Canada, England, North Africa, Sicily, and Italy from 1939-1946. In England, he transferred to the Machine Gun Company and became a Sergeant at 17 years old with the 1st Canadian Division. Edgar was wounded in action. He moved to Burnaby, British Columbia and worked at the Veteran’s Hospital there. He died in 1991 and is buried in British Columbia. PURCELL, John G. WWII John was born in Clair, Saskatchewan in 1920. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a Sergeant in Canada and England with the 48th Squadron from 1941 to 1942 when he was shot down 7 miles off the coast of Norway, over the North Atlantic. John is commemorated at the Runnymede Memorial in Surrey, England. He was 22 years old. PURCELL, Thomas WWII Thomas was born in Paswegin, Saskatchewan in 1914. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a Flight Officer for 4 years in Canada, England, and over Europe. He was a radar instructor in England, then was with the 219 Squadron, Night Fighters Bomber Command, and then went on to 617 Squadron, Dam Busters. Thomas got married and had one child. He was a school teacher for 26 years.
